A few days ago, Meta released its newest social media platform.

It’s a Twitter-like text based platform that has grown to over 70m users in the first 2 days.

Why you might want to skip it… for now.

1/ The content is TOTALLY random right now

People are spamming new Threads as fast as they can to establish themselves on the platform.

So it's a ton of people talking about how friendly every one is. How it's like the "first day of school". How mad Elon must be. How they're deleting Twitter. And any and every thought between.

2/ The Algorithm seems like it's not turned on at all, it's chaotic.

There’s little to no chance you’ll get to see anything you're actually interested in.

Unless you are seeking out specific creators, you're seeing a ton of people you don't know.

And they're posting every single thing that comes to mind, like I mentioned above.

It can leave you feeling like you’ve wasted a ton of time after scrolling for a while.

3/ It’s a dopamine factory

We learned from the “Social Dilemma” on Netflix, that these platforms' sole purpose is keeping your attention. They’re over stimulating.

A constant flood of new information.

And if you leave, the siren song of your iPhone pings lure you back in every time someone likes, follows, or mentions.

‘Threads’ isn’t unique in this way. It is a state-of-the-art addiction inducing platform designed to cultivate your attention. Eventually to sell to advertisers once you’re hooked.

There are a few reasons why this is the best time to get on Threads

1/ There are no ads

While random, every post is an organic thought from a real person.

It’s refreshing not running into an ad every few seconds.

It reminds me of the early days of Tiktok, where real people are having innocent fun with a new toy.

2/ Organic reach is better now than it will ever be

If you have struggled to grow an audience on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn. Now is a good time to capture the free and abundant attention on Threads.

With that attention on a borrowed platform, like Threads, you can move people to your "owned" list. Aka email list or newsletter.

Organic reach is unfettered, and will never be this good again.

That said, it’s the second best time to grow on the platform. It’ll get easier to target your audience once the Algo gets to work showing people what they want to see.

But now is a great time to get your foothold.

3/ Influencers are more accessible there than anywhere else

They’re getting hundreds of comments now, so this ship is sailing. But there were hours where you could comment on a Gary Vee or Alex Hormozi post while there were only 10 comments or so. They definitely saw it.

Even now, smaller influencers are replying to comments and following fans. Dan Koe and 'therealindiandad' seem like their running for mayor of Threads.

Now is the time to leverage influencers who are growing their audience. Post something meaningful early, and watch your follower count climb.

Here’s how I’m using Threads

1/ It’s a place for my repurposed short form text content

After I write a newsletter, I peel out the best snips of text and post.

2/ It’s taken the place of my iOS Notes app for recording my post ideas.

I love the idea of ideating publicly. So any content idea I have, I pop on there. The ones that get some traction go on my newsletter idea list.

My content strategy looks something like this:

  • Capture ideas on Threads >

  • Turn the best ideas into Newsletters >

  • Promote the Newsletters on LinkedIn before they drop >

  • Create a medium post on LinkedIn after the Newsletter drops >

  • Take pieces of the newsletter to post in short form on Threads again >

  • Repeat

version 2.0 will add recording the Newsletters as scripts for Youtube long form videos. Then clip them down for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.

For now, it's text only. My comfort zone.

Long story short

If Threads will be a place for your repurposed content and a place to brainstorm in public,

Get on there now!

If you have no strategy and are looking to climb into another scroll hole. Go read a book or something.
